As the auto show circuit starts to heat up for the 2006/2007 season, we have learned that DCX will be unveiling a special edition Challenger at this years SEMA show in Las Vegas, NV. Chrysler is being very tight-lipped about the all of the details so all we know at this point is the name: Dodge Challenger Super Sport concept. Until then, we can only speculate about the powertrain and feature package. Maybe a supercharged 6.1L HEMI attached to a Viper spec 6 speed manual? Only time will tell, but Ford and Chevrolet (Mustang and Camaro) will both have to be on the lookout for this upcoming powerhouse. |

We have been hearing a lot about the next Challenger. With a new Camaro and the soon to be updated Mustang both expected when the Challenger is released, the production version of the Challenger better be good. Since we cannot fast forward to the year 2008 and report all of the details, we are here reporting that The Car Connection was lucky enough to drive the hand built Challenger concept around Royal Oak Michigan. Just as you would expect, everyone honks or smiles in approval once they spot the orange car on the streets. Even with a DCX project engineer in the co-pilot seat to squash any unauthorized activities, the car was a blast to drive. No smoky burnouts were done and no full throttle starts were tried, for fear of blowing out the fragile rear suspension. Regardless of those two minor things, it must have been nice to roll around in the 1 of a kind Concept Challenger. Most of the car's concrete details still remain secret at this time. So will it come solely as an R/T model? Will there be a SRT8 version to choose from? What about the colors and that interior? Only time will tell, but in 2008 this Challenger will be all business when it hits the streets. |

The Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise always provides an excellent display of Americas finest automobiles in their best settingshowing off and looking for prey. This year, a particularly interesting incident occurred. To set the scene, the Chrysler Group was hosting a media event in front of Duggan's Irish Pub in Royal Oak, showing off the Dodge Challenger concept and the original 1970 Challenger that brought about the rebirth. |

A recent report from Canada's Globe and Mail has hinted at Chrysler slating the Brampton, Ontario plant to produce 30,000 Dodge Challengers annually. This serves as further confirmation that the Challenger is to remain a relatively low-volume car and will have a finite number of configurations. Brampton currently produces the Dodge Magnum, Charger, and Chrysler 300C vehicles today. Production and sales for those cars has been on a steady, slow rise, so production of the Challenger will be a welcomed event. The Chevrolet Camaro production numbers are quite a bit higher than what Chrysler has planned for the Challenger; GM intends on selling 100,000 Camaros annually. The Ford Mustang will continue with its production pursuits with its redesign, selling over 192,000 units in 2005. |

Not to be outdone by the Mopar masters themselves, the outstanding "Overhaulin'" brainchild, Chip Foose, has partnered up with Unique Performance (based in Texas) to build a limited production collection of Challengers based upon the concept on the TV show. The cars, from 1970 & 1971, will have even more capability than the version previously seen, housing one of two HEMI engines under the hood (either the 347 or the 426 cubic inch engines). A TKO 5-speed and a Unique Performance rear will take the power to the pavement over the 18-inch wheels that mimic the 20-inch Foose wheels the TV version of the car has. The response to our Foose 69 Camaro was fantastic, which led to an outpouring of requests for a similar car from MOPAR fans, said Unique Performance President and CEO Douglas Hasty. Our 1970 Challenger program is designed to fulfill those wishes with a very, very small run of an even more exclusive MOPAR. Working with Chip, our team will turn a handful of these vintage muscle cars into pink slip winning, Z06 eating supercars. So, if the 2009 Challenger doesn't make it to market, enthusiasts can still turn to another outlet to get a hold of a classic. |

Inside Line got to not only hold the keys to the Dodge Challenger concept, they got to drive it around. Big whoop--a controlled environment test drive; what a snore. Not in this case. DaimlerChrysler let the IL crew tool around on the open road and exhibit the car to the public. More detail on the Challenger's ups and downs during the test drive and exhibition can be found in their firsthand review. |

The return of the Challenger is expected to be revealed at NASCARs Pepsi 400 race Saturday night (July 1st 2006). This car was once the king of the streets almost 30 years ago, roaming around and showing everyone else how its done. Fast forwarding to today, the Challenger will once again compete for bragging rights on the streets all over America against the Ford Mustang and possibly the Chevrolet Camaro as early as 2008. Expect the production version to look similar to the concept photos that drew so much attention from the public during the recent auto shows. |

Recently, the Dodge Challenger concept made an unscheduled stop in Southern California. While it's not for certain as to why, some speculate it is in response to all the attention the Chevrolet Camaro has been receiving lately. While the Challenger was in the neighborhood, several fanatics took it upon themselves to snap as many pictures as they could. Click here to see what all the buzz was about and to check out the images for yourself. |

Some sources have pointed to the fact that an auto parts supplier is currently working on components for the Dodge Challenger concept. As much as Dodge would like to lead the charge ahead, the decision to craft the retro hotrod is still being pondered. The heaviest choice is whether or not to make the leap to craft it, as its not 100% evident making the car is a good business practice. Check out more over at Inside Line |
