Dodge Challenger & Chevrolet Camaro

The Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise always provides an excellent display of America’s finest automobiles in their best setting—showing off and looking for prey. This year, a particularly interesting incident occurred. To set the scene, the Chrysler Group was hosting a media event in front of Duggan's Irish Pub in Royal Oak, showing off the Dodge Challenger concept and the original 1970 Challenger that brought about the rebirth. Suddenly, a Chevrolet car hauler, carrying two Camaros (the forthcoming model & a 1969 model) rolled onto the scene. Jason Vines, Chrysler's top Public Relations officer, assumed the low speed Camaro passing as an open invitation for a Dream Cruise rumble. He sarcastically referred to the drive-by as a "wuss" move, because Chevrolet chose to haul the Camaros onto the scene in a trailer rather than driving the vehicles by Duggan's. Chevy spokesman Terry Rhadigan claimed the appearance had nothing to do with starting commotion or declaring one car as better than the other. GM has been publicizing the Camaros for days on Woodward as part of the Dream Cruise and claim their rolling by the Chrysler Group was a mere coincidence. "We'll definitely do battle with them in the showroom in a couple of years, but right now this was more or less an opportunity to display the iconic brand," Rhadigan said.
