Dodge HEMI engine

Just when the Dodge Challenger gets a nice boost of wind in its sails, Chrysler releases news that the powerful HEMI powerplant propelling the car has quite the limited lifespan.  Despite advanced technologies of variable displacement and multiple plugs per cylinder, the behemoth engines won't be able to keep up in the race--the CAFE race, that is.  Hands down, the Dodge Challenger's introduction has caught the eye of many, but will the magic continue in future models when the Mopar monster is fitted with lesser displacement engines?

Chrysler made the announcement that the actual production amounts will be cut 20%, tied greatly to continually rising fuel prices and continued consumer interest in more efficient vehicles.  This market segment shift has stung Dodge truck and SUV sales by as much as 40%.

Will the Challenger be restricted to some leafy V6 as the top performer soon?  Tough to tell, but Dodge certainly has the work cut out for immediate future.  Stay tuned to Planet Challenger for more enthusiast-driven Dodge Challenger news.
