Dodge Challenger

The return of the Challenger is expected to be revealed at NASCAR’s Pepsi 400 race Saturday night (July 1st 2006). This car was once the king of the streets almost 30 years ago, roaming around and showing everyone else how it’s done. Fast forwarding to today, the Challenger will once again compete for bragging rights on the streets all over America against the Ford Mustang and possibly the Chevrolet Camaro as early as 2008. Expect the production version to look similar to the concept photos that drew so much attention from the public during the recent auto shows.

At the North American International Auto Show I witnessed this incredible vehicle in person. This car will draw a lot of crowds if you find yourself lucky enough to purchase one. At the show I couldn’t even get close to the turn table to get good shots from my camera because people were stacked 5 rows deep just for a glimpse. Were those glimpses memories or dreams? I will never know. What we do want to know is the Challenger’s power train. The HEMI currently comes in 2 flavors: a) 340HP 5.7L b) 425HP 6.1L displacement.

Will they both be available? Both of these engines are naturally aspirated and already in production but which one to choose? And will there be a manually operated transmission? Stay tuned to find out.
